Day 25: 08.31.2011

I wasn't feeling very well to fool around with self-portraits tonight. I hope this is okay though!

Hong Kong, I love you...

Day 24: 08.30.2011

Bananas do wonders for your health and vitality...

Day 23: 08.29.2011

...another long day yet again. Just got back from photographing my friend, Dave and his band. Apparently everyone in San Antonio is at Pat O'Brien's tonight (that placed was packed). Just got home not too long ago. As you can see, it took a lot of creativity on my part to come up with a composition such as this. Audience, I introduce to you a mirror with myself and camera in it. Yaaay. =) Sorry for the lack of creativity on a Monday night but I'll be editing photos for a good hour after. Good night, people....

Day 22: 08.28.2011

Pretty self-explanatory here....

Day 21: 08.27.2011

All I need now is "Storm's" power and I'll be good to go! I had lots of fun with this composition; although it's hardcore editing like this I wish I had Photoshop. Fairly time-consuming but I'm happy with the outcome.

Day 19: 08.25.2011

Lady in red...
Really played around with the lighting angles this time around, focusing more on my face and parts of the dress in the foreground.

Day 18: 08.24.2011

I still like to play before sleep. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Day 17: 08.23.2011

I know, I know...I did it again! Instead of being blonde, I am now officially a dude that juggles and spits fire! My self-portrait ended in me crashing into asphalt; it's been a while since I've done gymnastics. I just used Manny instead.

This guy is one of the members of San Antonio's, "Brothers of the Flame." I bumped into him and his crew earlier today while meeting my friend and fellow photog, Rene in order to help him with his photos for his site. I came up to Manny and Wolf and asked if I could take a few photos of them. The following photo is just one of the many I took of them. He's subbing lights [obviously] for fire. I guess they didn't feel like getting fined tonight.

Day 16, 08.22.2011

I've reached for Nirvana for some time and finally realized I won't get far by doing it this way. I'll admire from afar.

Day 15, 08.21.2011

...Okay, I'm officially a cheater. I forgot to take a photo of myself today. Instead, I went to Botanical Gardens to photograph Kaley. Since this project's objective is to learn about and experiment with light, I figured a bit of deviation from myself is alright. What do you think, Kaley?

Day 14, 08.20.2011

I went to Gruene, Texas today to shoot a few portraits of my friend, Kevin and his son, Kolton. Like I mentioned in my blog on my actual site, Gruene is one of the most conducive places for portrait and landscape photography.

A few hours of shooting under the sun, hiking by the river, and trying to overcome the heat, all of us were pretty tired. While Kolton and Kevin took a break from being photo subjects and snapped photos of their own, I took the following portrait. I think I'm having way too much fun with this. What do you think?

Day 13, 08.19.2011

Sorry. No planning and late night...

Noir

I really wanted to experiment with shadows and black & white photography tonight. In addition, my Dad thought about the idea of having blinds catching the light. I put this composition together. However, I only got a few test shots [the following photo being one of them] in. Why? Lesson II of the careless photog-always carry plenty of batteries for the flash!!!! My flash died shortly after a few frames. All I got were the test shots, nothing more. Another lesson learned, folks. Anyway, I'm still pretty happy with the photograph although I had bigger plans for it. A part two is definitely in the making...

Day Nine, 08.15.2011

My most creative state yet; my face with light on it. I actually took this in front of my closet door a few minutes ago. I hope you all like. Good night, everyone.

Day Eight: 08.14.2011

I actually woke up this morning before the sun rose. The benefits of getting a good night's rest =) I had a wonderful time in Corpus Christie. But, I do have to admit that the humidity was unbearable; I was more comfortable in the Philippines than I was at 6:30 this morning on the Texas coast!

Day Seven: 08.13.2011

This was actually taken this morning, 08.14.2011; however...I would've taken this photo the night before if it hadn't been for my careless mistake of forgetting my memory cards while traveling on the road (I know...). Everything turned out well though.

I call this "Etiquette." Pretty self-explanatory considering that's the title of the book that I'm reading. Taken in my hotel room in Corpus Christi this morning...or, in theory, last night. =)

Day Four, 08.10.2011: Food Fight

I had a fight with the refrigerator tonight. I tried to bite. He fought back with blueberries. And yes, I think he won. *sigh* Anyway....

Day Three, 08.09.2011

For day three I decided to do a simple and traditional style portrait. No creativity involved. I admit I just did this a few minutes ago since for the past few hours I've been pre-occupied with prior engagements. BUT...here is photo number three.

Aperture - f/4
Shutter - 1/5 second
ISO - 400
Taken with flash set on 1/4 power behind an umbrella; camera left at 45 degrees from me.

Anyway, sleep calls once again. Until tomorrow, everyone. Thanks for tuning in =)

Day Two, 08.08.2011

Geez. I know I'm cutting this pretty close given the time of day. Considering I work the majority of the day and really lack creativity today to pull off something really cool, I resorted to some night shots with flash and tungsten. At first I thought perhaps the flash and tungsten lighting from the kitchen nook might not mix well together; however, I think it turned out okay for this shot.

I set my flash, light stand, and umbrella behind the large window. The kitchen light's on, thus lighting the door as you see. My intention was to photograph my silhouette. The result? Something scare-crowish. Happy early Halloween, everyone.

22mm; flash set to 1/2 power; ISO 400; Aperture 5.6; Shutter 5 seconds; tungsten White Balance.

Note: the shot would have been crisper and more eye-popping if I had increased the shutter speed. However, I didn't want to sacrifice ambient lighting. Any suggestions from fellow photographers stumbling across the site is deeply appreciated. =) Anyway, there's 363 more opportunities to improve. Good night, everyone.

Day One, 08.07.2011

Okay. Well, I initially planned to wake up before the sun rose, drive to Gruene, Texas, and shoot a few frames of me chilling by the river. But....sleep got the best of me [as it usually does]. I woke up at 10:00 this morning, realizing that I had slept away my original plan. Hmmm. Oh well. So, what's next?

The less crowd, the better. I'm one of those people that pretends to be really outgoing when, in actuality, I'm naturally shy and reserved. I figured the intersection of I-10 and 1604 would be a quiet place to take photos during mid-day, especially since parts of the over-pass create nice shade. I only took a few frames. I got in and out within a 30 minutes. I took the shot utilizing manual mode, an aperture of F-8, a shutter speed at 1/60th, and an ISO of 100.

Assembly in the Works

Welcome, everyone.
I've started this blog through the continuous and ever growing desire to learn and improve in photography. More specifically, how light-artificial and natural-plays the lead role in captivating the attention of an audience.

Learning and experimenting with light takes time and persistence. In addition, it's difficult to capture this high caliber of quality in the beginning. What better way to improve on the technique than practicing on one's self? In addition, one can play a different character whenever and however.

During this year project, I'll be photographing myself every day-perhaps even granting my alter-ego the starring role at some point(s). She's dying to make an appearance anyway.

Yes, it shall be a challenge creating time every day to photograph myself; I'm definitely not as vain as one thinks. I'm sure I can learn a thing or two about light-writing through this challenge, and of course extend on this lesson to my clients with the utmost confidence and control.

So when is this happening? Tomorrow. Sunday, 08.07.2011. See you all tomorrow night....
